Initial steps

Consultation
This involves a site visit to discuss your requirements and inspect the site. Estimates for designs are then drawn up and sent together with a proposal for work.

Site survey
A detailed survey of your property will be needed to ensure an accurate and executable design. I will carry this out personally, or, when necessary, arrange for a surveyor to do so. The survey will be to scale and show topographical levels, materials, positioning of buildings and other structures, vegetation and other features—including sizes and species of trees. Also noted will be soil quality, drainage, prevailing winds and frost pockets, as well as various garden views.

Consultation only
A two-hour consultation may be all that is needed to resolve your gardening problems. I will arrange a visit to discuss your requirements and suggest solutions. In addition, a report may be prepared or the consultation extended by agreement. Consultation will be conducted at an hourly rate.

Design process
After speaking with you regarding what you want from your garden, and carrying out the survey, I produce a master plan, the layout of which will show all areas of hard and soft landscaping; structures with dimensions; level changes; materials; named trees and specimen plants. This is the plan a contractor uses to build the garden.

Planting plan
The planting plan shows the contractor what and where and how many specific plants are to be planted. The plan also includes basic plant care notes so that you can properly nurture and encourage your garden’s growth.

Installation of garden
If you wish, I will oversee the installation of the design with my landscape installation collaborators.

Plants
I can source the best plant materials and capably install designs large and small.
